Equus, Can you forgive?

A news report by ABC shows that horses our losing their freedom to roam in the wilderness due to overpopulation and starvation. The government is now for good reason rounding them up for the horses' own welfare. I was very sad to read this. Personally I really love horses. I think they are one of the most beautiful creatures. They are just like the dolphins of the land in my opinion. And they have contributed a lot to humanity. They helped shape cultures, empires and civilizations yet we treat them like junk. For what they did for mankind, I think horses should now get more respect. Polo and horse racing were definitely sophisticated and beautiful sports for riders back in the dawn of mankind, but today I think these sports are primitive and unnecessary entertainment for the 21st century. If you are a polo fan, I'm sorry for that.

Here's a poem to show what horses did for us:

O Equus! My Equus
Share your sharp equine ear
Nature's most graceful of beauty
That provides the most loyal seat
That extends the most friendship to humanity

A gallop so beautiful
That it tells a story
Of battles and adventurous tales that are so part of yourself
How could we just forget it for a history shelf?

Your tail so high, your gait so proud
A music that is not heard but seen

We are ungrateful for your skilled legs
Filled with nature's soul itself
Delivered us from that frightful darkness
To civilization and cornerstone of our empires
What you gave us is of undeniable truth

A wind behind our achievements
A protective harness only a mother could give
From your pure ebony kind
To your starry innocent white

Can you forgive?
That we did not see
How we owe our progress to your caballus feet?
Those very hooves that showed us what alone we couldn't see

Equus we have betrayed you
We have ignored that loyalty we were so used to
You do not share from the fruit of our bond
The use we have today for you
To abuse you and neglectfully respond

Can you forgive?
Our Generous Equus
That we did not care for
What true companionship really is
